Mechanical and refrigeration permit check for heat pump installation

SDCI says a mechanical permit enables installation of new heating, venting, and air conditioning equipment, and its mechanical inspection page specifically identifies residential refrigeration installations such as heat pumps, air conditioners, and mini-split systems as city-permitted work that SDCI inspects. SDCI also says a refrigeration permit is needed whenever a refrigeration system is assembled on site and that a separate mechanical permit may also be required.
